The future of Austin: rampant theft, poop, homelessness and shuttered businesses

Austin the place that erects statues of homeless people.

Unless any of you actually live in Austin your opinion isn’t worth anything more than a post on an escort board. What does this really have to do with politics anyway except for the self gratification you get by insulting and owning the libs. If you guys want to have a circle jerk please do it elsewhere. let's see how the Austin Statesmen spins this ...

https://www.statesman.com/story/news...n-us/43010523/

"The FBI has not released any crime numbers for 2020, but the Austin police chief’s latest monthly report shows that, while certain categories of violent crimes are up, violent crime on the whole is about even with where it was this time last year. Murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault, intimidation and incest are up so far, while rape, forcible sodomy, sexual assault, simple assault and others are down."

brilliant!

What’s with the right wing conservatives obsession with labeling liberal democratic cities as bad. Austin is a great place to live. If it wasn’t people wouldn’t be moving here.

One person makes a post that’s nothing but an insult to the good people who live here and we get a pile on of further insults from a bunch of trolls. All with no real reason.

I've lived here in austin my whole life. It's always been a liberal sewer pit. Austin prefers illegals and homeless over the Police dept..
Spending millions on these folks mean while taking money from the police dept.. austin cares more about the names on streets and buildings than they care about folks camping and shitting on streets across the city.

I lived in Austin for 10 months back in 2007. I was a resident client at a school for blind adults then. Among othr things, we trained in walking around Town with white cane. For those of us who had some (any) residual vision, we did all training (everything} under a blindfold.

I would not want to give that a try now.

Austin got to be the way it is now through liberal politics, liberal politicians and liberal policies.

A lot of the things that you describe are common amongst many large cities.

If you think that these problems are caused by a particular political policy then you should talk about that and not just use your hatred of liberals to justify your actions.

You are not wrong about some liberal policies affecting Austin’s urban environment. The lifting of the camping ban in 2019 certainly made an impact on the streets of Austin. Proposition B was passed in 2021 restoring the ban which moved a lot of the homeless population off the streets where they were polluting the environment.

The police department budget was slashed in 2020/2021 but quickly restored the next cycle. Why, because they realized the policy was stupid.

Austin has challenges they need to deal with as the city moves into new stages of development and despite republican opinion the people who are running the city are not idiots.

The prevalence of Texas politicians using Austin as a punching bag doesn’t help. I for one am tired of Greg Abbot and the rest of the Texas republican party shitting all over us.
