Who invented prostitution?

Avoiding for the moment the problem with a profession being different from a job, it actually has to be the second oldest profession. The man (presumably) in question had to acquire something of value via some effort to gain something worthy of trading for sex. It may have only been a sharp stick or a usefully shaped rock, but that would be the job (then dominant in the economy) of a gatherer. Originally Posted by TexTushHog

I would suggest that in some ways, we are ALL prostitutes. We sell our physical bodies but even civie people sell their time, and other attributes, for different reasons.

It all has to do with creature comforts and being fed.
