Just for the record, i would like to state that PJ and RK are 2 of the most intelligent human beings i have ever encountered anywhere. Honest! Originally Posted by Doove

I've never told a lady she's been a lousy f*ck. OTOH, I've never always been fully satisfied. If that's a white lie, I'll live with it. If that's a gray lie, I'll live with it. If that's a cruel lie...sorry, I'll live with that one, too.

There's a big difference between telling a white lie to protect someone's feelings, and abondoning being a gentleman in order to be cruelly blunt. Originally Posted by charlestudor2005

I hate having to explain jokes to the feeble minded.

I am curious when a woman has posted that she wants a honest man. But then will sleep with me knowing full well I am screwing around behind my wife's back. I find it just curious that's all. I guess she can deal with the transgression when the money/gift is placed on a purse or table. Probably what makes the world go 'round.

I can agree that lying to a spouse is WAY more than a white lie to avoid a social engagement (BTDT).

White lies...hmmmmmm....

Expose or protect?
Using the old "does my arse look fat in this....?" example...
If the reasonable risk of protecting them with a white lie is higher than exposing them to humiliation..go for it. If it's the reverse, do not proceed.

Succinctly, that lies are bad must come from some authority. I'll not argue the origins right now. Just let the point stand: some authority greater than me gets to say what is "good" and what is "bad." If I begin to interject subjectivity into the process, saying that I respect the authority but I indeed have the authority to determine what is a "shade of good" then I am assuming I am also an authority on the subject of what is good and what is bad. I do not relish that role.

I believe it is in the heart of us all to use the "white lie" to protect others. But I believe diplomacy to be the art of avoiding the lie while STILL being able to protect the other. Just because I lack diplomacy skills to accomplish my task does not give me license to resort to the use of tools which are "bad."

Do I lie at times? Guilty. Do I excuse certain lies as being acceptable because of their rank and grade? I do not. All of my lies are lies.

So if white lies in essence is nothing more than a form of rhetoric , isn't it then a battle between lies and diplomacy? People not blessed with the art of diplomacy are then faced with a dilemma and from what I have read the really good liars are winning!

"MSNBC is reporting that a Columbia Business School study shows those who hold power over others make better liars. According to one of the study's coauthors, 'It just doesn't hurt them as much to do it.' For the average liar, she said, the act of lying elicits negative emotions, physiological stress and the fear of getting caught in a lie. As a result, she added, liars will often send out cues that they are lying by doing things like fidgeting in a chair or changing the rate of their speech. But for the powerful, the impact is very different: 'Power, it seems, enhances the same emotional, cognitive, and physiological systems that lie-telling depletes. People with power enjoy positive emotions, increases in cognitive function, and physiological resilience such as lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Thus, holding power over others might make it easier for people to tell lies.'"
