I'll give you that, but consider that the Beatles played live until August 1966.. the WHO was dwarfing the Beatles onstage in 1966.. energy, enthusiasm.. the Beatles were a Drummer and 3 guys standing there playing guitar.. the 3 guitarists together didn't equal the one playing for the WHO.

The Beatles. Nothing against the Who, the Stones, or anyone else mentioned here, but the Beatles transformation from the mid-60's and into what they became makes them at the top of the list. Originally Posted by bbkid

I could use another argument and say the Beatles did not transform as a Band, they fractured as 4 personalities divided the group, and the transformation was really solo artists combining their songs into one group album.. unlike the Stones, Moodies, and the WHO which were true band efforts. I could also say the Beatles saved their reputation by breaking up at the "right" time.. in the same way Hendrix and the Doors saved their reputations by dying at the right time.. Hendrix and Morrison will stay 27 years old, they never faced the challenge of continued relevancy. same with the Beatles.. granted, the 4 members continued solo, but after 1973, frankly, there is not a lot of meat in the music of any of those 4 members. some people deride the fact that the WHO is a Dinosaur band (same as the Stones and Moody Blues) today, but at least they get out and do it, and very well still. that said I applaud McCartney for his road skills, amazing energy, long shows still, at 75 years old.. and Ringo, while his Ringo and all-stars is a bit worn, it's a cool concept that Ringo owns, and operates successfully.
