Mass shooting at Zombi-Con, Fort Myers, FL

Now you're splitting hairs. Just admit you were wrong. You clearly implied that the killing was in a gun free zone. The killing was also near a lot of buildings that were not gun free zones. Why only mention the center? If you honestly did not mean that the killing occurred inside the center, please explain your comment "Go ahead, begin the defense." Obvious to everyone exactly what you meant. Originally Posted by SpeedRacerXXX

Parson in Detroit shoots a man with a brick inside a church, isn't that a gun free zone? Originally Posted by i'va biggen

The Art Center was the main location and people are outside in costume eating, partying, and having fun. I DID NOT say that it was IN the Art Center but guests speakers, industry insiders, and booths were inside.

My comment about defense seems pretty obvious to the rest of us. Every shooting prompts an outpouring of gun controlitis. I want someone such as yourselves to tell us why gun free zones are not working.

I'll let the Sheriff for me:

In the meantime, get your nose out of my ass stalker. I may want to take a dump.

By the way, I have been known to write or call reporters, editors, writers, and the very source of the news. It's really easy.

Absolutely nothing stating that the area was a gun free zone.

Your argument about "at" or "in" is ridiculous. When someone asks where I'll be, I will say "I'll be at the movies" or "I'll be at the mall." No one says "I'll be in the movies" or "I'll be at in the mall." You are simply WRONG. Again.

So if I go downtown to city hall, where exactly am I? The basement? Licenses? the Mayor's office? or in the parking lot? So if I go to the Davis Art Center in Fort Mayer for Zombie fest I may very well be across the street at Chili's Bar and Grill and not in the building itself. Yeah, I've been there before. You haven't figured that out yet. I lived in Florida for three years.

Of course, you and your dim witted little catamite are just trying to defuse a bad situation for you gun haters. Like the Sheriff said, laws are not going to stop this from happening.

I'm still waiting for any proof on your part that the exact location where the shooting took place was in a gun free zone. So far, NOTHING. It was a homicide, one of approximately 8,500 gun homicides that will occur this year in the U.S. in non gun free zones. And once again you are throwing around your stupid generalizations -- gun haters. People like me who want a limited number of gun control laws to protect law-abiding citizens are not gun haters. People like me, who are in the majority, do not see a need to own and/or carry guns. I don't hate you or anyone else for deciding otherwise. You are the close-minded one who insists that people who do not carry guns are putting their lives in danger. You are the close-minded one who thinks gun free zones don't work although tens of thousands of them work every day of the year. You are the close-minded one who believes more guns on the street will lead to less crime, despite no supporting data. Try to open up your thinking processes and look at both sides of the aisle.

You should attend events like zombicon since you act like a zombie -- the NRA (or John Lott) says something and you blindly nod your head in agreement.

I suppose you want to line up a bunch of criminals and have each of them say that guns prevented me from committing crimes. Not going to happen.

As for your number, are you counting accidental shootings and suicides like your buddy is doing. Your still avoiding the OP though.

In 2013, according to the FBI, there were an estimated 14,196 murders in the U.S. In 69% (9,975) firearms were used. These numbers exclude accidental shootings and suicides.

According to the following, there were 9,960 gun homicides in 2012. Homicide, by definition, excludes accidental shootings and suicides. I thought you know that.

I don't believe much that John Lott says because he has an agenda. I don't have to challenge his numbers. Numerous other people who are much more learned on the subject than I have already done so.

"Today the “more guns, less crime” hypothesis has been thoroughly repudiated."

"Lott is problematic on a number of levels. First of all, his famous research that purports to show that more guns lead to less crime is incredibly shoddy from the standpoint of social science methodology. So much so, in fact, that back in grad school an econometrics professor of mine taught a class based on Lott’s dataset, which basically amounted to an entire course in how not to do quantitative social science research."

Yes, data states that the crime rate, both violent and non-violent, has dropped dramatically in the last 20 years or so. However, there is no proof at all that this drop has any relationship to gun ownership.

I have presented a great deal of data in the past that say the decrease in crime has absolutely NOTHING to do with the number of guns on the street. Below are
opinions from several sources and my assumption is that they do not have an agenda like Lott.
