Jonathan Martin: Wuss or Hero?

Latest headline---- The coaches told him (Incognito) to do it.

I say wuss. Incognito is probably a wuss that needs an ass beating as well, but if you have a bully problem in a football locker room, you either work it out or somebody leaves on a stretcher. Originally Posted by JohnnyCap

And the OP has his facts skewed. It wasn't Incognito that caused Martin to leave camp. Incognito's asinine message cam later.

Martin left over rookie hazing. Apparently, this is standard behavior in the NFL. It involves senior players running up huge bill in restaurants and forcing the rookies to pay as part of a "rite of passage".

I read one report about a $30K dinner tab that a rookie had to pay.

This may not be too bad for a first round draft pick that makes $5 million in a year, but it also happens to rookies making near the league minimum (about $300K or so).

After taxes and agent's fees, a $300K salary doesn't leave a lot of room for $30K dinner tab.

Martin apparently got fed up and walked our. Then the ass Incognito send him some messages filled with racial insults.

Good for Martin.

Fuck Incognito. We will see how long his money lasts once he is out of football. The steroids have destroyed what few brain cells he had to begin with. Originally Posted by ExNYer

...so, to all the "he should have dealt with this like a MAN!" folks out there: What makes you believe that Incognito would have just backed down if Martin had confronted him?

More to the point...what makes you believe that Incognito, with his known issues (and DNDC past) would not have escalated this to Aaron Hernandez levels?

Martin did the appropriate, mature, correct thing. Pretending that "pissing on a rookie" is part and parcel to normal testosterone-fueled hazing?

Try again.

My profession involves working for, with and around professional athletes and has for a damn long time, and I've NEVER seen nor heard of that being done. Period. Isolating a rook? Yes. Making a rook carry bags/pick up the tab/run extra sprints? Hell yes. Making a rookie earn his spot on the team? Absolutely.

That a nine year vet was threatening to "shit in the mouth" of a rookie is a strong indicator that Incognito was not 100% there mentally, and thus might not have been the most receptive had Martin decided to work things out man-to-man as some are now suggesting.

My .02.

He had a problem with the team and the financial hazing before he ever got bullied by Incognito.

NO ONE should have to put up with that shit.

300K is NOT a lot of money, especially after taxes and agent fees. At that point, he would be lucky to have $150K left. $30K would be 20% of that.

What happens to a guy like that if he gets injured and his career ends after only a couple of seasons? How stupid will it look then if he lost $30K to pay for expensive dinners for the guys who have already been in the league to 10 years?

Hazing is horseshit. It doesn't build team spirit. They do it because it was done to them and now it is somebody else's turn.

Sociopaths and other unbalanced people like that stuff. Others just put up with it.
Here is a nice summary from the NY Post about what a sociopath Incognito is:

http://nypost.com/2013/11/05/how-ric...-no-1-villain/

This guy will be out of football soon and in jail in less than five years. Or dead.

He is prime example of the problems you get when you let sociopaths use steroids for a protracted period of time.

Football seems to emphasize the stupidity in some folks.

And the morons who say "fight like a man" are really saying it's fair game for the 360 lb lineman to bully the 180 lb wide receiver because the WR can always fight the lineman. Anyone here want to step up and fight Ndamukong Suh? After all, I'm sure your righteous heart will lead you to victory.

Neanderthal Bubbas are alive and well on this board, disguised as morons.
Martin's parents are Ivy League lawyers (Harvard) ...they smell money and are calling the shots.

Martin should have filed a complaint with Dolphins, NFL, and players union if he felt he was bring hardware...he didn't, is what we are being told.......

It was very surprising to me that the African-Americans on the team appear to be supporting Incognito, in spite of his racist tweets. Are we entering the long sought after "new era" in race relations, or do they just think Martin is a big baby, and Incognito is tough and therefore an "honorary" African-American?
