why mention the slave aspects or judge people of over 2 centuries ago by your superior behavior today if thats not your point? is not every one flawed or make mistakes in some degree or other? are you not a product of your time? and then to whom will you listen? i seem to recall the rabid defense of clinton and his mistreatment of women in this place rather recently. now that was judging someones behavior now by the mores of today.
in addition, the constitution and the men of that time did set in motion the impetus and the way to change the society in which they found themselves.
thats what liberals do, delegitimize the founders and therefore the constitution. therefore you can claim to school children and the aggrieved that your changes are good, your living "interpretations" of the constitution are best and a reverence for and appreciation of the founders and the words of constitution can be discarded.
