Tie or no tie

I fondly recall a trip with a lovely lady. I had a business meeting to attend, when I returned, she was wearing one of my ties -- just the tie. Originally Posted by pjorourke

Aw4- Try Escape...mmmm!!
I live in rural Texas. If you wear a suit and tie...well, you understand. Even church around here is dockers and sports shirts. And it's South Texas where most of December is in the 60s and 70s. Funerals and weddings are dress up in suits, but not totally.

One of my jobs requires a tie from time to time, so I keep them for that. I have more than enough and I'm not shopping for any more.

For my consulting, casual is OK. If a lady and I go to dinner while I'm on the road, my wardrobe is limited.
So, in what price range would you purchase ties? And what material?

$0 - 30
$31 - $50
$51 - $75
$76 - $100
$100+

The ties I have (doubt if I'll get any more) are all silk, and mostly cost under $50.

When I was in Chicago a couple of months ago, I ducked into a Nieman's to await the hotel shuttle (it was cold as hell). I think the ties there started around a couple hundred bucks.

And, what do you pay for in the price of a tie? The construction? The design? The material?

The tie was Hermes.

I have gotten the best ties for under 50 bucks...it's the look and the feel I go for, not the name.

I often wear a suit to a session. Most ladies seem to like the look. One lady has a thing for French cuffs (she doesn't know why) so I try to accomodate her.

A cheap tie only screams CHEAP. Only thing worse is a string tie.

I use Armani Gio but the bottle is getting empty so I may try a new scent. Any suggestions? Originally Posted by awl4knot

To tie or not to tie? I like them on a man; I like the French cuffs too. I think a tie is a must when going to an event such as the opera or a play other than that, they are optional in today's fashion world.
