Glad you found a place to stay while in town, enjoy your visit. I am sure KC is about to get busy in the wrecked car department, with you out jogging from all the gentleman craning their neck to take a look.

For watching the entertaining humans while on the Plaza, consider the restaurant "Classic Cup" at 47th and Central.
Interior patio and also street sidewalk tables to sit back and watch.
Also a nice neutral ground for meeting folks as well.
And, I have to add that the bar opens at 9am.
