Sigh....LOTR is not science fiction, nor is it science fantasy. It is fantasy pure and simple but it represents Europe of the early 40s. The orcs, their allies, and Sauron represent Nazi Germany and it's many allies (Hungary, Italy, Japan, Spain, and Russia for a time).
