For more than 100 years, the freed slaves from America enslaved the local population and set up plantation systems.

Now 50% of the population is illiterate. 80% unemployment.

I've lived in a rural area in Arkansas. A town so small that it did not have a police station or any police patrolling anywhere even close to the town. It's not dangerous. There's nobody there. You should carry a gun to protect yourself from bears, but that's about it.

There is some crime in more populated towns (populations in the thousands), but I don't think it's comparable to Chicago. It's like someone stealing a four wheeler or trying to rob the local gas station. They have more of a prescription drug and meth problem than gang violence.

I definitely like Chicago more than those shit hole rural towns, but I would stay away from the southside.
