"Go fuck yourself" is over the line, because that's where I draw the line and it's not about whether dearhunter's feelings may or may not be hurt. I further appreciate that everyone may not agree with the staff precisely where the line should be drawn, but that is of little consequence. Further, the non-apology apologies were wearing thin, and the backhanded, insulting non-insults (e.g., "I apologize for not suggesting that [insert member's name here] may be a putrid bag of shit.") were getting tiring. Just so you know, the 'moderating in Houston is like harding cats' line is mine and I'll be happy to illuminate the meaning for you at some point. But at this time it would just lead to points and thread locking. Let's start off with something simple any SHMB is a community, a living thing, the notion that a bunch of folks that live dancing around the morals and laws of society, would then seek out rules in a forum geared to that pursuit is interesting. A wise council might look for ways to manage the minimum enforcement or the most egregious assaults on civility.

You are sir a steward of this forum and choose each day what kind to be, bristle at each minor slight or become slightly self deprecating and accept that we are all here because we not all there. This can be fun or the folks that make this clean well lighten place exist can post on egg shells. If you don't find dh amusing then you are clearly in the minority and should lock yourself. Being funny or responding to someone else trying to be funny, will step out of bounds now and then. A good shepherd would admonish one and not punish all for a minor error in humor.

You are more than welcome to that term 'error in humor' as a tool, removing the offending joke and perhaps adding that the humor was wearing on you or several members as the case may be, might be the lighter hand of moderation that would make some what embarrassing posts like this unnecessary.

I have no doubt being a mod is a tough job. I know that I am not cut out for it and therefore I would never attempt it.
