OBAMA'S ANSWER TO HIGH OIL PRICES...

I B Hankering's Avatar
supposition or not major oil producing countries CAN control world prices by increasing or lowering production. See, that wasn't so hard. Increasing supply will lower world prices.

then we have the mid east crisis that effects the global price of oil ...

people who yammer about gas $$ really want to attack Iran? Really?
Talk about yammering, CBJ7. Canada and the U.S. can increase production; put more oil on the market; thus, lower world prices. You said as much above. Your suppositions about what another producer 'might' do are just that - 'suppositions'.

yeah, poor Ib
CBJ7, your opinion doesn't rate jack-shit.

so many factors in the equation, so little insight.
Still more conjecture on your part. Prove your little hypothesis with demonstrable facts and not you opinion. Your opinion doesn't rate jack-shit. Originally Posted by CJ7

uh huh

Iran threatens to block the gulf and the price at every pump in America rolls up, not down.

Here's the problem with your snide remark, Sexyeccentric 1, CBJ7 has already admitted increasing production does lower world prices. In case you missed it, read CBJ7's post above. How is that an excuse or justification for the U.S. not to produce? Any increase in U.S. and Canadian production will lower prices. You've already said as much above. Originally Posted by CJ7

The Keystone XL is an export pipeline folks. Much of the heavy crude oil from it will never reach US drivers Tanks. In fact most of the Canadian oil that is exported by Keystone XL will increase the cost of gas for Americans including farmers.

Oil production in this country is up in a major way and even tapping into our natural reserves isn't going to do much to affect gas prices. It didn't when Bush did it. The president cannot control gas prices. The Keystone XL pipeline is not going to help us. It looks to me the President is compromising which the Republicans are unwilling to do and that is why we have a very dysfunctional government right now. No one wants to work things out at the table and make some compromises. Originally Posted by Sexyeccentric1

By draining Midwestern refineries of cheap Canadian crude into export-oriented refineries in the Gulf Coast, Keystone XL will increase the cost of gas for Americans.

TransCanada's 2008 Permit Application states “Existing markets for Canadian heavy crude, principally PADD II [U.S. Midwest], are currently oversupplied, resulting in price discounting for Canadian heavy crude oil. Access to the USGC [U.S. Gulf Coast] via the Keystone XL Pipeline is expected to strengthen Canadian crude oil pricing in [the Midwest] by removing this oversupply. This is expected to increase the price of heavy crude to the equivalent cost of imported crude. The resultant increase in the price of heavy crude is estimated to provide an increase in annual revenue to the Canadian producing industry in 2013 of US $2 billion to US $3.9 billion.”

Independent analysis of these figures found this would increase per-gallon prices by 20 cents/gallon in the Midwest.
According to an independent analysis U.S. farmers, who spent $12.4 billion on fuel in 2009 could see expenses rise to $15 billion or higher in 2012 or 2013 if the pipeline goes through. At least $500 million of the added expense would come from the Canadian market manipulation.
