I'm not a right winger. And Nixon was nowhere near as corrupt as this President. Sorry for the simple fact, BigTurd. Originally Posted by CuteOldGuy

The weird thing about Nixon is that the left hated him with such passion and he wasn't even conservative. The real reason, for the left's hatred of Nixon, was that he was instrumental in bringing down (Soviet spy) Alger Hiss. They never forgave him for that.

I can not believe the right wing-nuts let the 40th anniversary pass of one of the Republican Party's landmark political accomplishments of the past 50 years. Yesterday, marked the 40th anniversary of the Watergate break in. And you guys forgot to celebrate the occasion!

Shame on you!

Hopefully, the next generation of right wing-nuts will not be as forgetful in 2043 when the 40th anniversary occurs of the spring of 2003 invasion of Iraq! Originally Posted by bigtex

what was was nixon's biggest failure?

1. his dislike of the main stream news media and their hate of him

or

2. covering up the fact some bozos, thinking they were helping him by sneaking into the opponents office, broke into the democrat campaign committee's office

and exactly how is this different or worse than obama leaking national security information in an attempt to aid his re-election or obama's attorney general lying and covering up fast and furious under oath before congress or for that matter slick willie's lying under oath in an attempt to defeat a fellow american's constitutional rights while having sworn to uphold the same?

None of it is different and it is all different.

Who knows why some things are sticky and others aren't.

Reagan was Teflon...we will see come November if Obama is.

Watching an old Smothers Brothers show you will see that the left liked Nixon and elected him. The left didn't trust Humphrey because he was considered the toady of LBJ, the man who started the Vietnam War. After he got in office Nixon did create the EPA, passed a bunch of environmental laws, made a sort of peace with China and the USSR, and raised taxes. What is there for the left not to like? Except that they had Robert Kennedy in 1972 and the Kennedy legacy until June. They wanted to get rid of Nixon then. Along came McGovern who was as soft as you can get but he lost in a landslide to Nixon. That means that democrats and republicans voted for Nixon in 1972.

JD never lets the facts stand in the way of the story he wants to tell! Facts be damned!
