Wow! It looks almost identical to the one I was talking about getting! Originally Posted by Ginger Doll

If you can afford it I would get a Glock in 40cal. The kick is not bad and the round is a good round. Originally Posted by mike8443

Ginger Listen to Lonesome. He is definantly your go to guy when it comes to firearms.
Yes, AR is one of the 40 states with a CCW permit. Unfortunately, our legislature has not enacted a 'Castle' law like many other states have done. Originally Posted by Lonesome

Let the bastards come now...

When are we gonna go shooting?
I like the glock better too, but for protection, get a revolver...

I shot my guns last night.... gave me a rush! Think I'll go shooting again soon

A revolver is good but you only have 6 shoots, with a Glock you can get the extended clips and have 15 shoots. Also with the 40cal you have enough knock down power for any purpose and with the Glock just about any body can shoot it because the recoil is very managable.

But, if you have opportunity....shoot other weapons, including the Glock, and then determine if you like the Ruger revolver best. If I had opportunity, I'd drive to your area and bring a few weapons for you to shoot to help with your decision.

I still like the Colt 1911 .45 cal. It is my carry weapon of choice very little kick cause it is heavy but what a knock down. It is the small arm of choice for our seal teams. For Ginger I think you should go to the range and shoot several before you purchase the important thing besides taking a course and getting your permit is practice practice practice. So you should get a weapon that you like to shoot and shoot it often. You should be able to shoot your weapon, reload, and shoot again in the dark. Become intimate with it as it may safe your life.

have had one of these for about a year and i also have the permit and carry it quite often with a "inside the waist band" holster..has a 3in barrel holds 16 in the clip...has the trigger like the glock and the grip safety like the 1911 as well...many features....also like the kahr model in 9mm in their lower priced model...cw9093 and also comes in 40 cal....small clip but thin and easy to conceal.....the newest model from springfield has the adjustable grip size and comes with 3.8in barrel....not a single misfire yet with mine.....

There is a different gun for almost every situation. There have been some excellent well thought out posts on this subject. Best recommendation I've seen is to find something you are comfortable with. Feeling unsure at such a dire time is unnerving and dangerous. I feel the most comfortable with my Springfield 1911. It stays in the night stand and I'm not concerned with it's accuracy because it is just about loud enough to scare someone to death. Just remember, if you ever fire a shot your best defense is you felt the safety of your or a family member was in immediate danger.
I know this is an old thread, but have additional question about Arkansas gun laws. If one has a concealed carry permit, does the gun itself have to be registered in AK, and what is necessary to register it. If a gun is received as a gift does it need to be registered, or is the carry permit good for any side arm ?
