The Dallas Cowboys and NFL 2022 Season

game last night was the wackiest NFL game I have seen in a while. Rodgers getting hurt in the first 5 minutes, possibly out for the season. Allen turning the ball over 4 times, the 65 yard punt return to win in overtime. that's what we watch football for Originally Posted by beeman1000

Might as well climb on my Soapbox... Sports has become something of a Haves vs. Have nots. As such, a large segment of the population sits out of the Sports conversation, and finds other interests away from Sports. Take the US Open Women's Final, 3 days ago. Fuck you if you don't have ESPN. Texas Rangers? Very exclusive TV rights, and if you want to go in person, you're dropping more than $100, parking, Hot Dogs, etc., excluded.

In a Capitalist economy, they are free to do as they please. But as Howard Cosell famously said, ''the games are meaningless''. More and more people are being forced to figure that out. Entertainment choices are legion, it looks short-sighted to me, to deliberately reduce your fan base by pricing in disinterest.

And I think many feel as I do.

I would have watched the Open match Saturday, if it was on CBS (where it had been for years, I keep forgetting ESPN has hijacked Sports as deeply as it has). But 2 hours after the match ended, I had moved on, so to speak. I learned who won, and had made good use of the time that I otherwise would have spent watching a Match that has no lasting value.

Same with the Final Four NCAA Basketball last Spring. If I was super interested, say My School was playing for the Championship, it is easy to skip if it means coughing up even $10 a month. I can watch at a Sports Bar if I need to.

Back to the Rangers. Their greed for the incremental dollar just reduces interest in the Product. I can name 3 players on the whole team, haven't seen a single game in 2023, live or televised. Used to be 35-40 games on free TV every year. They fell from first place to third, but who cares? I have zero feelings, because they aren't ''my team''. How can they be? We haven't ever met.

NOT!

That's the chance you take in Football. Dak missed most of a Season. One play can completely change the trajectory of a Team's Year. Rogers could possibly have a 5 minute Career as a Jet.
The Jets should just cut him lol

Sunday's game is going to be interesting. Defense is going to have to be ready for the run because that Breece Hall kid is something special. First two runs against the Bills totaled 109 yards. If you miss him, he is gone. This will be a real test for the simplified offense they are running. They are trying to just move the ball, not be flashy/special. Jets Defense is up there. Should be a good game.
Lots of good defenses this year. Dallas, Jets, Bills and 49ers are top notch.

Dallas will have a decent year barring catastrophic injuries but their schedule this year is stacked. On the road against SF and Buffalo, not to mention their division is still good even if the Giants have fallen off.
Bills I still have to see another game or two. I wasnt impressed with their D. 49ers and Jets looked good defensively. Browns look like they could be a top defense this year.
Something I have been thinking about watching the games lately: why do they bother with kickoffs anymore? I don't think I have seen a single one not go into the end zone for a touchback so far this year. Might as well just start everyone on the 25
While its rare now, some teams will still try it. If the kicker doesnt blast it past the end zone, it can be tried. Also, always a chance the kicker shanks it out of bounds and places the ball at the 40 instead. And of course, there is the onsides kick chances.. normally used when youre behind late in the game as a last ditch effort, but can be used to try and catch a team off guard ala Broncos start of their game
So aside from getting burned for that one long TD, Defense looked good. Dak again was efficient for the most part. Didnt need to try and do much.I like what I saw overall. I think the Giants just made our win over them look even better, though they were looking like it was going to be 2 weeks where they stunk up the place.

2 games and the defense has only allowed two scoring drives. +60 point differential. 17 week season, but this is the best team right now. Long way to go.
The Browns o-line getting absolutely beat the fuck up by the steelers pass rush.

Am I imagining it or does defense seem to be winning the escalation war right now? I am not seeing a lot of offenses that are dominating, seeing a lot of defenses that are absolutely terrorizing their opponents.
