With the fear of a likely tax rate to business owners, and the inability to accurately create a business plan and profit projections, I'd take the family to Europe. Originally Posted by nwarounder

The income tax is inherently evil, and gives too much power to government. There is a reason why the income tax is included in the Communist Manifesto. If we want real prosperity for everyone, we will adopt the Fair Tax. Don't even respond against it unless you have read it.

Some good stuff and some stupid stuff. I believe in one tax level, no loopholes, and everyone, EVERYONE, is in the game. So I guess I go with a consumption tax. Yes, you could leave the country to buy your high ticket items but people do that anyway. Remember the 10% Clinton surcharge on yachts that all but killed the American boating industry? If are the kind of person who sails the ocean and is willing to spend $300,000+ why not go to Bermuda to buy your boat. There are many others who will spend their money (and that includes foriegn visitors) right here in the USA. Congress can't reward their friends (and be rewarded) with loopholes. Oh, a percentage... I do like the biblical 10% but I understand that currently we need about 17%.

A couple of things; if the rich got rich by firing workers then won't it make sense to fire everyone? You think not... The truth is that the rich get rich by a lot of different ways; Kennedys inherit their wealth, Corzines cheat people, Schwarzeneggers invest in real estate, and others (the majority) innovate, work hard, and come up with an idea. They get rich by HIRING people to produce a product. If they can sell more product then they have to hire more people. Sometimes in business (unlike government) people have to be laid off because the market will not provide the necessary support. 12 million Americans out of work since 2008 and how big has government gotten. I see that they want to hire 4,000 more IRS agents to run healthcare (?). That really doesn't make sense but that is what the government wants to do. Think about it, people lose jobs, tax income drops, government has less money, and then they hire more people.

There are more than just the income tax. Some of these taxes are regressive. Do you understand just WTF that means? If not let me explain. It means that when a person buys a car, that sale's tax to a poor person is a much higher % of their income that to a rich person.

To counter this , we came up with a progressive income tax.

Folks are really being idiotic when they run around talking about only one form of taxation. That is not really fair or equal , don't ya think?

Pretty slick the way you lie CJ. George Bush did sign the Omnibus Budget Bill that contained the luxury yacht tax which was put together by a democratically controlled Congress but he did NOT champion this tax. In fact this tax dates back to Jimmy Carter. George Bush is guilty of trying to repeal this tax as can be seen in those two liberal rags the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. So now you and WTF can go back to sucking each others dicks.

By the way, as a teacher I work for the state of ............ and not the federal government. Going through life fat, drunk, and stupid is not an option...for most of us. Enjoy.

We have to get rid of the income tax first; that's the hard part. We sure don't want both at the same time.

If a flat tax was adopted, I would however have no problem with a state that wanted to have a higher tax rate or progressive tax rate based on the price of the vehicle.
