But guns... guns can't be outlawed... not for any logical reason but because.... criminals will still get them.
Now-- don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for weapons bans. But I'm saying-- gun proponents should stop using that ridiculous argument.

While it may not be a legit argument by itself (it's quite the appeal to emotion), it's definitely a strong statement that we should all keep in mind because it always follows the proposal of taking guns that can protect citizens away from lawful citizens.
So, it's not just saying that criminals will be criminals. It's pointing out that the ability to protect oneself will now lie only with the people who are willing to break the law, and, presumably, the same people who you would want to protect yourself from. Or, it will criminalize the good people with guns.
Either way, it's bad for society. (It obviously ignores outliers like this type of mass shooting.)
