This is a bad idea.
I'm a political moderate. I have no axe to grind with either side. I support gun rights, a strong military, fiscal responsibility and marriage equality. I never vote straight ticket. I'm also a management employee and a combat veteran. Unbiased enough for everyone?
Too many people go to college. As a society, we've grown to expect that everyone is college material. That's not the case. As a result, we've lost respect for skilled jobs that don't require a degree. I run a manufacturing plant. We are struggling to fill maintence and machine operator positions. Kids today see plumbing and electrical work as beneath them. Want to shore up the middle class? Invest in blue collar skill training. Originally Posted by TxTo

Allows the student to even work full-time, or at least part-time while going to school. Go to community college for a couple of years and figure out if college is really for you, then if the answer is yes, move on to a 4-year college. If not, you haven't broken the bank with tuition.
I would add.....
There is no reason to rush into college immediately after high school. More importantly, there is no reason for young people to leave home and attend schools they can't afford. Get a job, live at home, go to school part time, and figure things out a bit before jumping into $20,000+/year debt for tuition, room and board.
The whole paradigm of college years needs to be reconfigured. Throwing more money the problem isn't the solution. Originally Posted by Whirlaway

Going to community college for any young American isn't a problem with a small amount of support from their parent(s).
Medical students have an average debt of $200,000- which IMHO should be a crime. So if we have a system where a student can come out of school 200,000 in the red- we should have a system set up where students who want to go to school don't have to worry about the financial burden. This is another of Odumbo's political ploys to agitate and divide the citizenry. If Odumbo sincerely thought this was a good idea, he could have possibly pushed it through a dim-retard Congress during his first two years, but that's not a given. A similar Odumbo proposal was rejected by the dim-retard Congress in 2010. Why can't we adopt a mandatory 2yrs of military service like our wannabe socialist, European counterparts? We seem to want to adopt every other government and social program they have. Why not that?Well, at one time we had a somewhat mandatory 2 years of military service here in the U.S. It was called "the draft". I was politely asked to spend 2 years in the army (almost got drafted into the marines) without an option to decline the invitation.
