There's a Thai place in Cedar Park (of all places) that has great Thai soups, but hands down the best Tom Yum is at Little China on N Metric.

And don't forget Whole Foods. A number of great soups.
Also:

Miso - Central Market or Hayashi (Cedar Park & Georgetown)
Very AUTHENTIC Chinese soups galore - Asia Cafe (Spicewood & 183)
Indian - Clay Pit
I agree with you PeAch, there's no great matzo ball soup 'round these parts!

It's gone now but there used to be a restaurant called New York Deli in Round Rock. (It was attached to the gas station between Wendy's and the hotel at I35 and 620.) You'd never expect to find a great deli at a gas station in RR, especially 10 years ago. But they had awesome everything including the best matzo ball soup! There were 2 women who ran it and one day it was just gone. I often wish they were still around. Originally Posted by poseidon

Does anybody know how many matzo men have to die so they can make soup from their balls?
EASY there, Yssup!!! As much as I hate this nutritional catastrope of a restaurant, I must admit that PF Changs has a wonderful Wonton as well as Chicken soup (both big enough for 2). I'll go there when I'm desperate for soup on the N side of town (no Pho houses up that way)...... But thank you ATXMonk, I will try Asia Cafe this week!

Houston's (or what used to be called Houston's - I think they are now called "Bartlett's") at the corner of Burnet and Anderson Lane has great soups - they change each day
I just tried Asia House for the first time on 2 recommendations from here. Thank you for the refs, I do appreciate them. THEY WERE THE RUDEST PACK OF BASTARDS I HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH IN A LONG TIME. the woman at the counter ignored me for 5 minutes, then acted annoyed, then wouldn't answer simple questions about the menu items, then rushed me, then when i DID order, I found a soup with noodles and tried to change my order (less than 2 min after ordering) and she said NO, and argued with me telling me repeatedly "NO". I almost pulled her over the counter.

In conclusion, the food was EXQUISITE, very good soup, they even serve Snow Pea Leaves, which are hard to find on this side of town (N. 183). So thank you, the food was wonderful but I was mad for a while after that. I am not accustomed to being treated like a stray dog in a RESTAURANT. I have always received polite service from Asian people, this was quite a new experience..........not typical, thank God.

When my dogs were young I learned how to say a particular word in Angry Mama Dog; works on puppies, dogs, teenagers, New Yorkers, maitres d', everybody; great pattern interrupt. Learned more in a decade of canine company about social interaction than in the previous quarter century.

As for you, Maxie, I recommend making eye contact and growling inaudibly; works great. ;-)
believe me, I thought about it! If ever I wanted to bite someone, it was HER! LOL
