the circle of fake news

And there is no direct answer to my question.

We both agree he stopped anchoring. That is not in question.
So, you can mull that over with others.

Get back to me when you can prove that he didn't voluntarily leave the anchor position. Originally Posted by Precious_b

I stated that he gave up the anchor chair on his own.

Salty doesn't agree with my statement.

Upon asking for a source counter to my statement, no one has supplied it.

He eventually left CBS. That is agreed by all. *BUT* it wasn't immediate. And he still worked at CBS after vacating the chair and before leaving.

People can speculate everything under the sun/moon/stars. Asked for proof, everyone acts like there is a blackhole sucking the above up.
... I'm known for me honesty here on the site, and I need
to clear-up a few points... Precious is mostly CORRECT.

Now I don't believe Mr. Rather "gave up the anchor chair"
as his-own decision - I surely believe Rather was forced off.

We can agree to disagree on this point.

However, Precious is correct on other things - that the
Rather fellow was still employed by CBS well after
he was pushed-away from chair... He even still managed
the show.

Now where I believe I may have been wrong - is that
I'm beginning to think that with the emergence of
Connie Chung - they may have been pushing Rather
to "step away" even before the "Bush papers"...

So perhaps they were onley part of why he was
pushed from the chair.

And we can surely debate whether he was fired or not.
As Preece mentioned - it was nearly two years later
- once his contract expired. ... So technically -
one could make the case he was NOT fired.
As CBS simply declined to renew Rather's contract.

Surely hope THAT clears up the matter.

That was all.

Fired from CBS News

In June 2006, reports surfaced that CBS News would most likely not renew Dan Rather's contract.[68] According to a Washington Post article, sources from CBS said that executives at the network decided "there is no future role for Rather."[72]
On June 20, 2006, CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus announced that Rather would leave the network after 44 years.[73] Rather issued a separate statement which accompanied the news of the departure:[74]
I leave CBS News with tremendous memories. But I leave now most of all with the desire to once again do regular, meaningful reporting. My departure before the term of my contract represents CBS's final acknowledgement, after a protracted struggle, that they had not lived up to their obligation to allow me to do substantive work there. As for their offers of a future with only an office but no assignments, it just isn't in me to sit around doing nothing. So I will do the work I love elsewhere, and I look forward to sharing details about that soon.

Rather left the anchor desk in 2005 following the Killian documents controversy, in which he presented unauthenticated documents in a news report on President George W. Bush's Vietnam War–era service in the National Guard. He continued to work with CBS until 2006, when he was abruptly fired.
... Crikey! ... Surely seem that Rather was BITTER!

Wouldn't be surprised if he filed a lawsuit against CBS!
