... I'm known for me honesty here on the site, and I need
to clear-up a few points... Precious is mostly CORRECT.
Now I don't believe Mr. Rather "gave up the anchor chair"
as his-own decision - I surely believe Rather was forced off.
We can agree to disagree on this point.
However, Precious is correct on other things - that the
Rather fellow was still employed by CBS well after
he was pushed-away from chair... He even still managed
the show.
Now where I believe I may have been wrong - is that
I'm beginning to think that with the emergence of
Connie Chung - they may have been pushing Rather
to "step away" even before the "Bush papers"...
So perhaps they were onley part of why he was
pushed from the chair.
And we can surely debate whether he was fired or not.
As Preece mentioned - it was nearly two years later
- once his contract expired. ... So technically -
one could make the case he was NOT fired.
As CBS simply declined to renew Rather's contract.
Surely hope THAT clears up the matter.
