Sensitive passwords for Colorado voting machines posted online

I think the catch here is the word “knowingly”.

The spreadsheet had a hidden tab that held the passwords. The person who published the spreadsheet didn’t know it was there.

Hard to say that they had knowledge of the breach. Originally Posted by txdot-guy

I think the point that bothers me the mot here is that someone should have known what the hell was going on. That nobody did is a reflection on whoever was supervising that operation.

Whatever the IT guy's fuzz-mumbled bullshit reason for this fisco, somebody should a serious ass kicking . . .legally if the law fits and professionally regardless..

Password security is no joke to be laughed off.

Fine. Explain it away for the rest of us.

Just how is it that public knowledge of thse passwords is not relavent. If thatr is the case, why is there a need for password protection in the first place?

And it is not just "these passwords" that I am concerned about. IT professionals and others involved in this sort of work must be made to understand the potential gravity of this sort of IT security breach involving our election process. This time it perhaps didn't matter, but today, everything is subject to being hacked . . .even the water meter buried in my front yard can be hacked. That doesn't seem too important unless I get s bill that could finnce moon rocket.

There are warnings every day about foreign interet who have a serius intent to do us harm as a nation hacjing into this or that system. There were alligations of both Russia and China medling in our elections in 2020. That these thingd did or did not actually happen is besides the point and now well in the past.

However with that as background history, any attsack on our election process is a serious matter.

That this current password thing did not result in an attempt to subvert ele cations in Colordo is fortunate, but must be taken as a event to be learned from. Examples must be made so that other IT folks are vigilant and competent.
