The cowbitches were never America's team. That moniker was made up by Gil Brandt, or was it Tex Shramm, to market the cowbitches.

Prolongus, I'm wondering if with the new tax bill, a lot of pro-athletes will be making the jump to states without a state income tax? Originally Posted by John Rockhead

Hell, the Jets, Giants, and 49ers are already crappy.. in another year or two, they'll really be in trouble.

of course, Athletes who play in SF or New Jersey need not reside there. and "visiting" athletes are already taxed in the States with income tax. so probably no material changes will occur.

The only problem with that theory are the agents. The agents are paid a percentage of the gross rather than the net of the contract. If the 49ers offer a contract that has a higher gross dollar amount than the Texans the agent will steer the player to the 49ers.

For the record.....

The nickname America's Team was created and marketed by Ed Sabol's NFL Films....specifically by (filmmaker) Bob Ryan while producing and editing the Dallas Cowboys 1978 season highlight film.

From his Philadelphia apartment, Ryan came up with the idea one evening; attributing the name to the broad (national) appeal the Cowboys had...much akin to other iconic teams, such as Notre Dame and the New York Yankees. It caught on quickly....CBS and MNF announcers ran with it the following season and it's been as such ever since.

Landry hated the nickname because he felt it put a bulls eye on the team....Schramm, on the other hand, embraced it since it put an even brighter spotlight on the franchise as a whole.

Make no mistake about it, Dallas was America's Team years before the cliché was even coined.....tv execs would be the first to acknowledge that fact since the Cowboys were (and always have been) Ratings Gold.
