La Margarita Restaurante in Round Rock off I-35.

Their Shrimp Diablo is a beast. Jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon with a sliver of serrano pepper & monterrey jack cheese, then flash fried. Served with garlic butter dipping sauce.

El Dorado is HORRIBLE... how can anyone stomach that crap...

The Chili Rellano @ Baby Acapulco is usually very good

Get Frijoles Alachado? Instead of refried beans... don’t eat the salsa until after your meal...
This question came up on the local Nextdoor with the same kind of results. It seems that virtually every Mex. place in Austin is the best.

Fonda San Miguel is usually the top choice of those who know. Be sure to make reservations, or take a picnic lunch lol

Fonda San Miguel is over-rated and over-priced in my opinion. El Meson is better- on South Lamar. They have a taco place out on Burleson which is pretty good. I will say their Sunday brunch is getting close to over-priced, but there is always a really big selection of dishes.

Fonda San Miguel is in fact a bit high, but you don't go there to save money. There's plenty of other choices in Austin for that.

Casa Chapala is an excellent place for real Mexican food. They specialize in southern Mexican food. They also have a huge tequila selection - over 200 tequilas. They make your salsa right at your table - you just tell them how hot you want it. It's at the corner of Burnet & 183 (it used to be the old Black-Eyed Pea restaurant).
Taqueria Los Altos for breakfast!!

Remember when the Sunday brunch at Fonda San Miguels was around $12. No waiting line. Awesome ambience and the food was awesome.
