The vast majority of AR's, however, are bought with the intention of shooting in Matches such as NRA High Power and just blasting away at the local range with bulk ammo.

My take is the attraction is the "blasting away part" ... although I've not taken a poll I suspect "most ranges" prohibit the "blasting away part" due to the damage caused to indoor ranges and the lack of "containment" in the outdoor ranges (and some indoor ranges!) The type of backstop, baffling, and perimeter construction can determine the safety of doing so......not only to others on the range but "neighbors"!
