So since you are positive you will participate, how about those "experts" you are basing your lifestyle and actions on.

You still haven't provided them so I can tear apart your narrative about how they so drastically differ from Trump's suggestions.

Guess you are afraid to reveal them.

So carry on in "YOUR" thread. Originally Posted by eccielover

Unfortunately people are getting out and, unless forced to do so by stores where they are shopping or restaurants where they may be eating, they are not for the most part following social distancing rules. Did you see the protesters at the various state capitols? Did you see pictures of people at the beaches? More and more states are eliminating the requirement to wear masks.

Trump just raised his predicted death toll for the coronavirus in the U.S. from 65,000 to as high as 100,000. So we're getting close to the original esimates of between 100,000 and 250,000 possible deaths attributed to the virus.

Then Just Do it. Nothing stopping you from going outside except yourself. You even think you will ever feel safe again? (it's called conditioning) What happens the next time someone sneezes? What about the Demonic News Networks come next flue season? Going to be a heap'n help'n of steaming Fear Porn. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

On the upside, screw the movies. Let the self-aggrandizing celebrities starve. Originally Posted by Why_Yes_I_Do

So until I see a significant reversal in the number of deaths attributed to the coronavirus in my area, I will continue to do whatever I can to protect myself. For me it is just an inconvenience.

". And it seems to favor attacking older people."

that statement - attacking older people preferentially" - is not a know fact. Wuhan virus has a high R0 - infectivity - a value still evolving due to large numbers of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic people infected. Wuhan virus affects people differently - and there are at risk population cohorts with significant risk factors for more severe manifestation of disease - but preferential infectivity (R0) of the elderly has not been shown.

What is clear is that older people - - over 65 years of age - have a higher incidence of more severe infection course, and a higher case mortality rate than younger people. Also those with predisposing underlying disease processes - obesity with diabetes, underlying lung disease, and cardiovascular disease - also usually diseases of older people .

My "opinion" is supported by every medical professional I have read who has done research on the subject.

"Research so far indicates that COVID-19 spreads more easily and has a higher death rate than the flu."

https://www.livescience.com/new-coro...-with-flu.html

"While both the flu and COVID-19 may be transmitted in similar ways (see the Similarities section above), there is also a possible difference: COVID-19 might be spread through the airborne route, meaning that tiny droplets remaining in the air could cause disease in others even after the ill person is no longer near.

The COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly. Since this disease is caused by a new virus, people do not have immunity to it, and a vaccine may be many months away. Doctors and scientists are working to estimate the mortality rate of COVID-19, but at present, it is thought to be substantially higher than that of most strains of the flu. "

https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/heal...019-vs-the-flu

"A crucial metric called R0, pronounced R-naught, represents how many people an average person with a virus infects.

The coronavirus has an R0 of roughly 2 to 2.5, meaning that each new person spreads the disease to about 2.2 people on average.

That makes COVID-19 more contagious than the seasonal flu."

https://www.businessinsider.com/coro...-spread-2020-3

"New research suggests that the higher number of infections per coronavirus patient may be related to the frequency of presymptomatic transmission — when people who have been infected are not yet showing symptoms but in fact could be contagious. An analysis of data from China found that 13% of cases were likely caused by people spreading the coronavirus before they started coughing and feeling achy.

By contrast, flu is most contagious in the three or four days after symptoms begin, according to the CDC, and presymptomatic transmission doesn't seem to be a major driver of new cases."

https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsan...-and-different

"Why Covid-19 is worse than the flu, in one chart

It’s more contagious, more deadly (particularly for older people), and it has a greater potential to overwhelm our health care system."

However, there is evidence that the more compromised a person's immune system is, the higher the likelihood of contracting the coronavirus, and the older a person gets, normally the lower the immune system is.

“It is not chronological age alone that determines how one does in the face of a life-threatening infection such as Covid-19,” cautioned geriatrician and gerontologist George Kuchel of the University of Connecticut. “Having multiple chronic diseases and frailty is in many ways as or more important than chronological age. An 80-year-old who is otherwise healthy and not frail might be more resilient in fighting off infection than a 60-year-old with many chronic conditions.” Reason: She may have a younger immune system.

So no, the virus does not necessarily attack older people more than younger people, but there is evidence it attacks those with a lowered immune system, which comes very often with aging.

Good point you made.
