Is Life Better Without Alcohol?

Correct, Famous Grouse is a blended scotch.

And it has zero carbs, sow if you are on a low carb diet, rather than a low calorie diet, it's a good choice.

IMO anyways Originally Posted by EJunkie

The same is true for calories in general. A shot of Vodka has ~65 calories and a Budweiser bottle is like ~150 calories.

Then again a can of regular (non-diet) cola has the same if not more calories.

The only problem with spirits prepared by someone else (e.g. at a bar or a party) is it is more difficult to monitor intake (either for a diet or sobriety).

Love my one cocktail and wine with dinner. Hate being drunk and don't understand "being high".

This is an interesting thread ... I have been thinking seriously of quitting drinking altogether, just because it does not do that much for me and I have seen a lot of my friends get crazy when drunk. I am more of a happy laid back girl when I drink.. no drama happens for me, but friends of mine who are the most happy calm people when sober, can get rowdy, start fights, say things they would never say and make horrible decisions! I do love a glass of wine at night or a cold beer outside on a hot summer day...
Loved scotch and fine wine. Got waaaaay too good at drinking prodigous quantities of both. Quit 5+ years ago. Life is good again.

I am not a teetotaler for the same reason I’m not a vegetarian. My ancestors spent a great deal of their lives figuring out what was good in this ol’ world, and they preserved that knowledge and passed it along for subsequent generations (me) to enjoy. Similarly, I voted for Patron in PJ’s poll a few days ago; nevertheless, I believe moderation is important. I do not believe that two or more hours of drinking fun should cost one a healthy, productive day. Life is too short to spend it drunk or hung-over—but I must admit, it’s a lesson I’ve learned through personal experience.
Well, if one are in the 90 percent of the population which can control AND enjoy their drinking, have at it! There are many things right with limited, responsible alcohol consumption. Wish I could!!!

If one is in the 10 percent with the genetically altered physiology which cannot ever control their drinking, then it is a fatal disease, and LIFE is only possible by abstention.

As a card-carrying member of the tithe, I have enjoyed my 28+ years without alcohol much more than I did my 10 with, but I still occasionally remember how much I enjoyed the first couple of drinks each day (before I finished the first bottle and started on the second), especially Scotch and Tequila. Ah, nectar of the Gods.....

Ultimately, I also agree with Mr. Clemons.
my god, you out - consciousness explore - me by far. I just stick to the usual: shopping, having cybersex, writing on eccie, screwing marshall Originally Posted by ninasastri

I guess with age and responsibility came the desire to NORMALLY control the amount of alcohol I consume. Having experienced some personal issues and a tragedy or two I HATE being out of control and I refuse to get myself wasted to that point. I'm part of the 80% that can control my drinking but I have the genetic packaging and familial background to know that if I am NOT careful there is the possibility that I could drift into that 10% ... I KNOW that I have an addictive personality but thank goodness I haven't destroyed myself or God forbid anyone else!

Great thread btw! Thanks!!!!

I like to a drink every now and again, it helps relieve the tension of daily life sometimes... I wouldnt make it a daily thing though maybe once a week would be good!!!

I might have a couple of cocktails a year because most alcohol doesn't feel good in my blood stream. I'm going to Vegas with some ladies and I will partake in very small increments, I don't want to waste my trip not feeling well.

A glass of chianti with lasagne - great!
A bottle of Annie Greensprings (or two) with Spaghetti-O's - hmmmm...

Alcohol is a complement to food, not an end in itself - especially in volume. It can be a danger to some and all would be advised to remember and respect that potential.
