Death Penalty for PSU?

I think the death penalty would be appropriate for sandusky. I feel like it should be used for people who infringing on the free will of others (murder, kidnapping, rape, molestation). Basically if someone holds you against your will or ends your life it would be applicable. I think it should be up to the jury though, every case is different.

It should, but it won't happen. He probably won't be put in a normal prison either because the in-mates will try to kill him. He will probably end up with his own private place.

As far as the penalties, sources are reporting Penn State would rather have the death penalty than what they are going to announce tomorrow.

I like the punishment, Joe drops to 5th very happy with that. Four years no bowl games and the scholarship limitations will hurt the school. But they will survive, they can come back years from now.

Agree, Trey. NCAA acted with some restraint here, which I think is good given the nature of the crime.

I think the NCAA made a statement to all the other schools, don't hide skeletons in your closet, if you do and we find them we will hammer you.

Top players can go to other schools if they want. I am good with that.
10 new scholarships a year dropped for 4 years, I am ok with that.
No bowl games, ok.
60+ million dollars in fines, wow.
A good number of Paterno wins being vacated, yeah I like that also. Good move.
Should put the statue in the sports museum on campus and tell the entire story in there.

Somehow it seems like this is what a lot of what was needed to refocus the university away from football. Don't think that the NCAA would have dropped these penalties if there was a chance that Penn State would fight them tooth and nail in the courts over it. I think there are probably people in oversight positions there that see that this is a good thing for their school and is what is needed to bring it back to a focus on education. Otherwise I could see a fight from them if that were not the case. The power balance and hierarchy at the university has been brought back into line with where it should be.

Now Penn State should quietly settle with the victims privately and move on.

I am unclear what authority NCAA has to level a $$ penalty. It is troubling that the NCAA receives a windfall of sorts. I would have liked to see the $$ fine be placed into an account to assist the victims of this mess.

I do like the message that is being sent to ALL schools.

That is what they will be doing with the money. These funds will go to child sex abuse awareness programs, not specifically the victims there.

FYI, the $60 million dollar number was selected as such because it's the average yearly income of the football program.

I am sure the actual victims of the entire thing will be financially compensated pretty well independent of this action.

Being a PSU alumni, I agree with the sanctions, for these horrific incidents. I does not deminish me being proud I am a grad from there. But I have one comment O'Mike said, and implied about the football team and academics. For all the shortfalls and just plain fucked up stuff Paterno appartently did to try and sweep this under the rug. One thing he was adamant about was the kids went to class, got passing grades and graduated from there. PSU, always was at the top in the nation for having student athletes pass, and graduate...They didn't have basket weaving classes there either.....

Why punish them for something that happened a few years ago?

You have to punish them hard so it won't happen again, it has nothing to do with the program now. Every college coach in the future will react differently as a result of what happens here and now.
