What surprised you the most

After June 12th, I wouldn't visit Omaha. The college world series is starting to gear up, hotels are already full with the exception of hotels on the outskirts of Omaha.

Some ladies think that the CWS is going to bring them huge business, but it doesn't. The guys from work the series such as broadcasters, writers, coaches and the guys behind the scene for ESPN don't have time because there's always two games a day until towards the end of the series. Even then they're doing interviews, giving interviews, etc.

But, if you want to come visit just to go to a game....its a blast. If you want to visit Omaha to work.....come early June or in July. Originally Posted by MsElena

i have enjoyed reading this post and want to keep it going so I will toss in my contribution. I have two "surprises" - one about a specific incident and one about that applies to a lot of providers.

Here is the incident - similiar to the "small world" stories that appeared earlier. Many years ago (before these boards, even before the internet), i coached little league baseball and boys soccer. Of course, i became familiar with many of the parents one of whom was the single mother of two brothers on my team. My own son became friendly with these boys so knew their mom a little bit. Dad never showed up at games or practices and there were never any absences of the boys to visit their dad, so I got the idea that dad was long gone. A friend told me about a provider whom he had met thru an agency but who had gone independent and was seeing clients by referral only. He referred me, i spoke with the provider by phone and the redevous was set up. I knocked on the door of the hotel room. The door opened to a dimly lit room with candles and music. It took several seconds for each of us to realize who the other was.

The first surprise of course was the coincidence. The second was how easily we managed the situation. After some uncomfortable moments, we lauged, drank the wine, agreed that no action was going to happen, and that neither of us was ever going to let on to anyone else what we had just discovered about each other. Of course, there were errie moments at sporting events.

Now for the more general one. I am surprised that the age difference between providers and hobbyists is such a minor factor. A few providers say straight out "no one over some amount of years". But the vast majority have no such rule and it seems no unusual that the difference in age is 30 or even 40 years. I am surprised that so many providers find this palatable.

I am in the habit of asking, very soon after meeting, "are you bothered that i am so much older?" Not only is the answer almost always 'no', but a few providers have said, either sincerely or with a really good act,
"no, and actually i much prefer it that way". It seems un-natural to me, but i always try to get thru it!
I am almost always genuinely surprised by finding the answer to the old question,
"where have all the nice girls gone?". It seems they have become escorts. Maybe I have been extraordinarily fortunate in my hobbying in Dallas for many years and now here in Nebraska, but the profession seems to attract women who are genuinely sweet people. God bless women.

Many places have made it hard for street walkers and advertising in the yellow pages, but the Internet seems to have made things work better, although there are some places like Craigslist and Backpage that a person has to watch more carefully.
