My fault, different thread on a similiar topic. I told the attendees that I had an idea; since ammo was so short in the major calibers why not buy a weapon in the calibers still in abundance like 7 mm, .338, ,300, .35 Robert, etc. I would still like to get my hands on a .444 Marlin for a decent price.
I use a .270 for Whitetails and it never fails me. Truth be known, I would be comfortable using a .270 for elk but I bought the .300 specifically for that purpose. WWII Vet is right, it is not so much about the caliber as it is a well placed shot.
