I always ask what I can do to get the provider off - fav position, daty, etc. If they mumble "everything" I just go about my business and pay. I much prefer a specific answer because if they have fun and get off, they usually give me a way better performance as well.

HOWEVER, a hobbyist with both size AND skill is a rare find. I would take average size with skill any day over over just size alone.
