Haley was honored as the first player to be inducted into the Cowboys Ring of Honor who was not originally drafted by the team.....and in the big picture, it makes total sense. The addition of Haley to the Cowboys tipped the balance of power between the two teams resulting in three Super Bowl championships for Dallas.
Now as far as Haley going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a 49er.....well, that's simply not true. It's clearly stated by the HOF that players do not go in as a member of a specific team....all inductees affiliations are listed equally. While baseball hall of fame members' busts are depicted wearing a baseball cap of a specific team, football does not have that distinction per theirs.
Perhaps the fact he had former SF owner, Eddie Debartola, present him for induction had you confused.
