Yeah, America is lawsuit happy. Trump in his business dealings was no exception. The biggest contributors to the Democratic Party are probably plantiff's attorneys, and they don't like any restrictions on their ability to sue because it's bad for business.
Anyway, qualified immunity does make a lot of sense. To sane people, yes As to the matter at hand, maybe better training is part of the answer. It seems like police are taught to be overaggressive -- manhandling offenders and sending SWAT teams in to arrest people who aren't likely to be violent for example. A buddy was recently mistakenly arrested and got thrown up against a wall hard and cuffed, even though he wasn't a threat to anyone.

We saw what happened in the Wendy's incident. Cop was treating the guy with due respect until it came time to put the cuffs on and since this guy was already on parole, he didn't want to go back to prison and decided to fight.
If your friend was "mistakenly" arrested, the cops might have thought they had somebody that just assaulted somebody and did the arrest with a preconceived idea about who they were dealing with or perhaps your friend isn't telling you the whole story and resisted just a bit demanding to know why he was being arrested which is almost certainly going to get one rougher treatment.
I believe that 9 out of 10 times, if you keep your mouth shut, do what the cop asks you to do, you will not get roughed up. Become belligerent, resist by pulling away and I guarantee you will get roughed up.
Stop resisting arrest and 9 out of 10 times, there will be no rough treatment.
I forget the city right now but I think it was yesterday that 2 cops were called to a domestic dispute and were shot and killed before they could ever draw their weapons. Now imagine or as the Progressives have now been programmed to say "re-imagine policing" and a couple of unarmed social workers were sent because it was a non violent domestic dispute call and they are now dead. Think anybody will start re-thinking about sending social workers out on domestic dispute calls?
