I'm being blackmailed. What should I do?

Call her bluff but inform her of the legal consequences of extortion and her reputation. If she has half a brain she will stand down. If she has slightly more than half a brain shes possibly reading this thread right now (assuming you told her you are a member). You can get out of this. She cannot without LE in her ass.

Look on the bright side. At least she's not saying she is pregnant and you are the trick daddy.

Lol...what a time to post an ad!
The only issue with acting too tough is that the blackmailer might get so defeated that she decides to tell the OP's wife anyway just as a form of revenge.

Say the OP gets both a lawyer and the police involved and the blackmailer thinks that she's going to get into legal trouble or perhaps even get incarcerated because of her threats alone...well that might make the blackmailer so angry that she will go ahead and tell the wife anyway. After all, the lawyers and police are now involved and she knows she's fucked..so why not fuck up the OP too?

I agree with you that the OP should have a lawyer scare her but the lawyer should also give her an escape line: that if she leaves the OP and his family alone, she will not be punished in any way shape or form. Originally Posted by VeryClean

I say if you're going down with the ship, drag her along with you. Contact a lawyer today and get working on it, taking advise here from a bunch of amateurs isn't the smartest thing to do.

I don't have time to read this thread right now, but I'll have some free time tomorrow for consultations. As always, be brief in your recitation of the facts and clear in stating your questions.

I just wanted to point out that while it's necessary to scare the blackmailer, there's a fine line between scaring her to the point of her going away and scaring her so much that she feels all hope is lost for herself and so decides to bring down the OP too. If she feels that she will be prosecuted for making those threats to the OP, she may then decide to tell the OP's wife anyway because she has nothing to lose.

Anyway, Tin Man educated me that a good lawyer will do what I'm suggesting and make her understand that her best option is to walk away forever.

Like I said...you telling her is one thing. Don't give up. String her along for a day or so and get a lawyer on it immediately.

I will repeat. Her attitude shows a recklessness, so getting tough is the best option.

By-the-way if she's on a burner or Google Voice you need to consider the following:

1. Your wife, nor the cops can positively identify her but your phone records will prove the two of you have been up to something for a while now (or at least your phone and the number she's been using). I would guess she's using GV as you are probably not her first attempt to extort.

2. You will most likely need her real identity and her address to file a complaint.
