Yes, and? Are you justifying the behavior? The new outrage is because now there's no room for doubt as to what did or did not happen. It's not speculation, we can see him slap the shit out of her and then stand there like an asshole not even bothering to make sure she's ok. Originally Posted by SpiceItUp

Plain and simple, they changed the rules on the poor bastard without prior notice...he lived, and thrived, in a social milieu that admires woman beating, with its own anthems to that effect. And the dipshit NFL was unperturbed....until now.

Just like poor ol' Peter Poole didn't get the memo in Kenya in 1960 and ended up the scapegoat of retreating empire, this guy's the NFL's designated scapegoat. He may be a turdblossom, probably is, but if the NFL treated all its players with the same zero tolerance given him the fields on Sunday would be half empty.

Ray Rice and Peter Poole...ritual sacrifices to appease the way the wind's blowing on that particular day, easy to pick from the marching masses of offenders because they were the dumbasses who happened to be out of step right when the authorities started paying attention.

As long as Simpson's homicidal maniac ass stays in the fucking Hall of Shitbird Fame, the NFL will have no credibility in these matters.

Professional sports...especially football has long had a thug problem. It's just much harder to sweep it under the rug now with cameras and the internet.

As to the rest of your comments, I agree that it looks unfair to not apply the new policy, but Goodell is judge, jury, and executioner. The optics are so bad on this they have no choice but to react severely. Anyone who thinks optics don't or shouldn't matter in business is too much of an idealist imop.

When Goodell met with Rice that video should have been requested as a starting point for negtiating a reduction in his suspension.
He could have started with a 1 year suspension for instance and told Rice that if he was able to look at the tape he might consider some leniency. That's one way to do it.

The security team in the NFL is full of retired cops, FBI etc that were smart enough to go to work for the NFL and get paid a lot more...but they weren't smart enough or connected enough to get the video? Bullshit! There's no way they didn't have the connections and the opportunity to coerce that tape from the casino.

The casino says they would have given it up if they'd been asked.
My guess is that the league office, maybe even Goodell himself mentioned wanting to see the tape and someone told him it was best if he didn't see it so he would have plausible deniability later on IF it came out. Looks like it's gonna bite him in the ass now.
Goodell's list of fuck ups gets longer and longer. He needs to go.
