Dude, you just don't get it at all.
I'm a salesman by trade and now I have my own company. There are clients that I've grown to think of as friends but I still charge them for my services. Some have dropped my service and we're still friends. I guess you can say there is an intimacy there as I get invited to supper, go to shows, even been given trips. It all started because I sold them something and then a friendship formed on its own. It happens in all walks of life, that includes providers.
