Well, there are a number of other countries experiencing the same October spike, so I don't think a lack of social distancing from select US states is the prime suspect.

It's a combination of cold weather and lack of social distancing. In April/May Dallas had a partial shutdown where non-essential businesses were closed and you had to work from home if you could. Non-essential businesses are open now and social distancing is not being followed.
