Yeah, there are some fucked up family situations. This is one of them. Your orphanage example is another one. Reminds me of situation where a kid was born to a bi racial couple at a time when it wasn't readily accepted. The guy's mother left the abusive father flying 2000 miles away from him. The kid didn't see the father much after that. He was born in Hawaii supposedly. The mother then married some other fellow and flew half way around the world with this kid. Finally at 13 the kid came back to the US to be raised by his grandparents....
