People who come here looking for asylum don't come throwing rocks.

The issue is these people could be anyone. They don't come with documents and the documents if used are very suspect.
Technically they are not illegal immigrants until they cross our border without the proper documents.

But as someone as someone pointed out, they are in Mexico illegally. Mexico has acknowledged this. As many US govt officials have pointed out, these people do not qualify for political asylum. As demonstrated recently and many times in the past, these people intend to enter into the US illegally. Therefore in my view, they are "illegal immigrants."
