I knew people in the Navy who joined to stay out of prison. white and black. can't do that now but this was the 80's where a judge at his discretion could allow someone to join the service for certain crimes. this guy Kenny Preston, black guy from Detroit. got caught boosting cars. was given a choice .. 4 years in state jail or 4 years in the military. he took the Navy. wise choice. he also had to get an honorable discharge as a condition to have his record purged. I think you with your Ivy league education can understand why that condition was in place. it prevented dudes from joining then immediately getting tossed out. it worked too. if Preston had gotten thrown out after say .. 2 years .. he'd do the rest .. two years in state jail.

well one night a bunch of us where at some bar in Seattle. the locals in towns with a lot of military don't like the military. several reason I guess ... some because they got drafted and hated the military. some because we had this nasty habit of taking their local pussy from them. more on that in my days in San Diego as well as Seattle.

anyway .. some locals decided they didn't like this black dude hanging out in "their" bar. local thing. so when Preston went to take a leak they decided they'd rough him up. they figured us white dudes wouldn't do shit to "N Dude". they found out real fast we would.

like a true military band of brothers will .. we closed ranks in a fucking warp speed second .. white, black, Hispanic and even one Asian dude .. and told them you want to fight our brother?
