The law is very specific that Presidents, once out of office can't take top secret documents, of any level to their residence. To let any President get away with skirting this would be a bad precedence. Now I feel the need to point out that what would be done, if anything, is another subject.
One interesting comment came from Bolton. Under the freedom of information act unclassified/declassified documents can be released (most likely w/redactions) and someone should sue for that to happen. I don't think Trump would like that.
