I have a lot of guns. I lost the heart of hunting 30 years ago. At one time I would have went deer hunting the first day and if I got fired for it I still would have went.
Now you couldn't pay me to go. We all change. But be honest 30 years ago we didn't have assault rifles, we still don't need them on the streets. Would those kids
Still been shot. Yes. But maybe a few of them may have gotten away.
Think about that.

The so called Assault rifle, the AR15 civilian version was availale for sale in the early 60s, sales were not impressive, I bought my first one in 1983 ish, IIRC, and I had to find a shop that would actually have one in stock.
Same time the first Chinese AKS hit the marked for 300 ish, I paid 550 for the AR, I still have it.
Then, came "Miami Vice" which glorified some of the weapons similarly available, and the sales just started to go crazy, first year of import, 400 AKs, second, 4000, when the crazy shit on TV started to create demand, the third year is was 40K, and you couldn't sell enough.
Then they stupidly half banned them, and created a line of people waiting to buy them.
In 04, that ban ended, the end result is MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of rifles, pistols and semi auto shotguns have been sold.
Pandora's box opened long before 1963, and you will NEVER be able to remove those MILLIONS of weapons from the population.
Now, you can 3d print Glock switches in minutes and have a machine gun in an hour, and they fill the inner city streets.
IF, there is a solution, you better take into account, that its the person using the gun, and not the gun itself.
Today, an AR15 is under 300 dollars for a complete functioning weapon, Peanuts.
You can't stop the gun, but you can keep your eyes open for clearly sick people buying them, I'll tell you this, if someone openly appears to be someone I don't think should have a gun, I am not selling it to them.
Not a guy with Swastika on his forehead, yes, I'm serious, to someone who is clearly misgendered, like the dude yesterday.
Nothing says I have to sell to someone I don't want to.
But I will tell you this, when I belonged to the Pink Pistols of Pittsburgh, there were trans and gay people looking for ONLY trans or gay gun dealers, I don't have an agenda, I care only to sell to people I feel are safe.
But there are sellers who don't care who they sell to, if they can make a dollar, worse, there are criminals doing it for them.
You gotta focus on the bad people getting weapons, not the entire country, Armstrong county doesn't have murders, Allegheny County does, take a hard look at who is committing the crimes and focus there, but that's racist isn't it.
