How long did it take for a vaccine for polio to become affordable enough to mass produce and distribute? Wasn't it literally decades? I know medical and technological advancements have come a long way, but that 1 year estimate still sounds too good to be true for a vaccine that can be mass produced and distributed. in the fifties polio shots where given to every kid, still have my little round vaccine mark, faded as it is
there were mass vaccinations of the salk vaccine, developed in the 50's, there was no delay
cases dropped by around 90%
then sabin developed an oral vaccine and the scrouge of polio was virtually eliminated
