A rifle bullet, even a hard ball round such as used by the military, will not make it all the way through a scope.

The hypothesis has been tried many times under controlled conditions. By the time the bullet punches through the objective lens, (at least 1/2 inch thick) and encounters all of the erector tubes and finally the ocular lens, (as much as 3/4 thick), it is out of steam.

what you said is true of modern scope, the bullet would not get very far, however, that is not the case with scopes made in the 1960's.

this is where mythbusters says the shot myth was busted.
