Photography Discrimination Trend?

The idea that someone would invest hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in equipment along with the time to learn how to use it just to save the cost of a donation or as one very vocal female photographer asserts "to see them naked" in the age of internet porn is simply ridiculous.

I'm sure there are plenty of disreputable amateur photographers, there are also plenty of disreputable professional ones, and they come with both sets of genitalia.

Im betting this thread stems more from GWC's and the hobby shooter if you know what I mean. Hobby shooters can be selective, its a hobby. Im also ok with GWC's so to speak as long as they still act like an adult and dont cross the line. There is a difference of being and out right perv and getting pics to spank to later. haha

There's nothing quiet like a blanket statement to condemn an entire gender based on the actions of one or two.

Every time photography comes up, the agendas come out. And the most prevalent one is that male photographers can't be trusted, especially those who don't charge. I'm sure there are plenty of disreputable amateur photographers, there are also plenty of disreputable professional ones, and they come with both sets of genitalia.

If you paint with too broad a brush, you get pretty messy as a result.

As a point of clarification, I am one of those often referred to as a "guy with camera", of course I'm also a "guy with thirty years of experience". Feel free to ask the ladies who's photos I've taken and posted if I have ever, ever asked for more than their time and patience.

I'm am camera guy! I'm a guy and I own a camera! LOL I take pictures of well over half the providers I see. Most are for my personal collection that I do not share. Some providers have asked I posts pictures with their reviews! Some of my pictures are displayed in show cases. It fun and it is a lot more classy that those silly bathroom pictures. One thing is for sure, there is a BIG difference between guys like me and the PROS like you! You guys can make magic happen. If I was selling my looks I'd hire a PRO for sure! It's simple why those so called *photogs* discriminate against women with curves/thickness. It's because those *so called wanna be photogs* use the line that they're a photog, to gain access to having their way with the young/thin girls for FREE! Meaning they only photograph the young/thing girls because those are the only ones who appeal to them, the ones they'll try to get freebies from.

This part of your post may be true, and unfortunately there are peolpe with cameras like that, however....

Seek out ladies who take photos. They don't discriminate and they're damn good at taking photos of women of all shapes/sizes and race.
And you'll get your photos with no strings attached..

This part I disagree with because it seriously oversimplifies. Good photographers come in both genders, and so do sleazy ones. A while back there was a female photographer in the Midwest who pitched her work to the ladies in the area with exactly the kind of arguments you made. Later it turned out she was selling copies to lesbian porn sites and mags.

The same practices should apply with intimate photography as apply to seeing clients here: do your homework, get references from other ladies.

If the lady needing the photographs is more comfortable with a female photographer and can relax better--producing better shots--that's a different issue.

If a photographer is paid in cash, then there is no reason to discriminate.
If it is an exchange of services, then they both have the rite of refusal.

I shoot as a hobby but I keep it professional, just as if it were my main job. I don't discriminate as far as size is concerned I have shot women that were a size two that couldn't pose and had bad attitudes and I've done shoots with one lady in particular who was about a size 22 but she was very easy to work with. I don't really care what size you are as long as you're paying and have a nice attitude we can work together.

A cookie cutter photographer is not a photographer i would take seriously anyways. Photographers are supposed to be an artist and the tasks they are commissioned for are suppose to be viewed as an exciting challenge. A photographer that only wants one look is a person with only one view or idea not someone who is realistic or flexible which I think are the true signs of a genuine commissioned photographer.

Hookers are an illegal trade so it's not like a guy can sue us if we don't want their business.

In the past few decades, society has given the word "discriminate" a negative connotation. Fortunately the common dictionary terms still exist:

dis·crim·i·nate/disˈkriməˌnāt/
Verb:
Recognize a distinction; differentiate.
Perceive or constitute the difference in or between.
Synonyms:
distinguish - differentiate - discern

Why should a photographer be condemned or criticized because he selects his clients, models or customers? As a business person, isn't the photographer exercising the same selection process as providers do every day?

FYI,
He has posted an explanation on his ad which makes perfect sense. His caveat vis a vie weight, age etc. was specific to a particular project, and is not his rule for paid appointments. Seems reasonable to me.
