The carbon price will be dead within days as the government uses its new Senate support to circumvent delaying tactics by Labor and the Greens, and bring a swift end to the policy.
But the government’s joy at eradicating the carbon price and the mining tax, also set to fall this week, is likely to be short-lived. The new Senate is as hostile as its predecessor to about $25 billion in tax increases and spending cuts contained in the budget.
“They’re in more shit than a *Werribee duck,” said one Senate source who asked not to be identified.
The situation grew slightly worse when new senators David Leyonhjelm and Bob Day said they would back Labor, the Greens and Clive Palmer in stopping the government from axing the last of the tax cuts that were designed as carbon tax compensation, a move worth about $1.5 billion over four years. Senator Leyonhjelm said he and Senator Day supported lower taxes no matter how small this break was.
The government has brushed aside a flood of last-ditch appeals from industry, economists and climate groups to maintain some semblance of a carbon price mechanism, and expects to *eradicate the policy by Tuesday.
The government, which needs six extra votes when defied by Labor and the Greens, has the support of all eight Senate crossbenchers, including the Palmer United Party’ three votes. On Sunday night, Environment Minister Greg Hunt and Mr Palmer were scheduled to sign off on Mr Palmer’s legislative amendment that would ensure the price reductions from reduced energy costs are passed back to consumers.

Brisbane is having record cold (its winter in Australia now).
I was listening to Shepard Smith yesterday on Fox News. Yeah, he is an ass and a liberal to boot. He got something right. He mentioned the jet stream. I have pointed out on more than one occassion how the jet stream has to do with the weather. It changed again recently. Smith owed our cooler weather to the jet stream but then he called it Climate Change. What an ass....
There are two kinds of climate change. There is Climate Change (with capital letters) that is supposed to be caused by man's activities. The people who support this folly also contend that man can change nature. They may be right. They have been trying to change the weather in California for so long and now they have a record setting drought. Maybe they pulled it off. No, Climate Change used to be called Global Warming. It is believe in by a bunch of people who think of themselve morally and intellectually superior though they can't explain why their computer models don't work. They don't work because it is a hoax.
The other kind of climate change is spelled with small letters because it is a natural part of the planet and nature. No one has denied this kind of climate change because it happens every year with the coming of winter and spring. It has been around longer than man which explains all those cold spells that occurred before man become industrialized. The hot spells as well. Smith doesn't know the difference between Climate Change and climate change which I think is the case with many environmentalists as well.
