I've been looking at the LC9 for CC but I'm starting to like that FN Five Seven.

I shot it one time without hearing protection when I was about 15. Never again! My damn ears were ringing for the rest of the day.

But Dad shot it many times without earplugs while hunting. Although he's now 86, perhaps the blast from that hand cannon is why his most frequent conversational answer nowadays is, "What?"

I have a Kimber Gold Match II .45 auto. Not much of a handgun for hunting, of course, but it's great fun to shoot!

Speaking of "hand cannons", just for fun take a look at this:

I saw a guy shoot a Smith .500 a while back. It had a 7 or 8 inch compensated barrel and kicked like a mule. It makes my .44 mag look impotent. They make it in a 3 1/2 or 4 in. barrel that they call the Alaskan Fisherman.
I get the concept but I might as well take my mauling from a big ole grizzly as to have to shoot that thing.

I love my .357 blackhawk. I've hunted with it, iron sights, and have hit moving targets(pigs, sheep,) from 30 - 40 yards or so. It's the one handgun I have absolute confidence in shooting. I know I can hit what I aim it at.

Damn Doove, lighten up a little. I have always been respectfull of your views, even though I disagree with you the majority of the time.

If you can't have a civil conversation, why not just stay out of it.

Never sold a gun in my life.

speaking of Ruger

bought one of the last Super Bearcats made in 72 ...

Western style revolver (smalish not much bigger than hand sized)
.22 cal
engraved cly
brass trigger guard
walnut grips (smooth)

I could take it and my Winchester 97 pump 12 ga to any western shoot in the country and be a top gun ... lol

I own guns that have been in my family since the early 30's
CJ7, I have two 5-screw Smiths, vintage mid 50's, one is a 4" MODEL 29 in 44 Mag, the other a 6 1/2 inch Model 27 in 357.

I have a couple of 41 mags, one is a 8 3/8 model 57, the other a 4 inch model 58. You remember that was the fixed sight 41 mag that Smith tried to get the Police to adopt. There weren't many takers, especially after they fired them. Definatelly a hand full.

If I didn't handload, the 41's would be just about obsolete.

If you are old enough to remember, Elmer Keith had Remington duplicate, in a factory offerring, his pet "22.5 grns of 2400 behind a 240 grn semi wadcutter" 44 mag load.. That was a blast in a 4 inch barrel model 29.

I wish this was not a SHMB, I could tell you what my "other Hobby" is. I can say that I shoot about 6000 rounds a year.

Compare that to the 30-06
180 g. bullet produces 20.3 ft. lbs of recoil energy at 12.8 fps velocity

a .338 Win mag is roughly 35 ft. lbs and 16 fps.

That guy didn't have a clue what he was trying to shoot. Even with a better stance and grip no one could hold on to that.
Boardman, that 500 Smith is one of those things that makes you say, "what in the hell were they thinking". You are right, shooting one makes you yearn to pick up something with a light recoil, like a 44 mag
