Same reason that EVs are still niche and haven't caught on, but multiple times bigger. Fewer hydrogen fuel stations, storage of H is difficult compared to power or liquid gas, and actually creating the liquid H requires a lot of power in the first place.
Maybe you could argue that it is better energy density compared to EVs, but overall it is more power inefficient to use H right now than just batteries
