vnm = you already posted teh 'garbage' line - and were roundly excoriated for it.

Do take lessons in learning One's lesson.

After all - a picture s far better at impressing an idea into a DPST minioni mind - than complex written words. Originally Posted by oeb11

Fact is the taliban would have taken over Afghanistan any way you put it even after we left. So why spend resources trying to prevent it? I call bullshit on troops leaving before civilians. Who the fuck do you think is helping them exit? Santa's elves? Originally Posted by royamcr

You see, there were 2500 troops in Afghanistan the day Biden took over and after making his decision on getting out of Afghanistan, he ordered those last 2500 troops out.

Why didn't Biden leave 2,500 troops in Afghanistan?

The Taliban's lightning-fast takeover of Afghanistan after President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw US troops by August 31 has critics asking: why didn't he just leave 2,500 troops there to fortify the now-fallen government?

"The history of the past few months repudiates this view: The final Taliban offensive began only when the US troop pullout was nearly complete."
If the United States left 2,500 troops in the country and continued to provide air support to Afghan troops, it "was enough to maintain a tenuous equilibrium in which the Taliban made advances in the countryside, but every city remained in government hands," Boot said.

Then Biden order thousands more back to Kabul to facilitate evacuation efforts. Why pull a couple thousand out only to put them back in?

The last-minute decision to send 3,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan to help partially evacuate the U.S. Embassy is calling into question whether President Joe Biden will meet his Aug. 31 deadline for fully withdrawing combat forces. The vanguard of a Marine contingent arrived in Kabul on Friday and most of the rest of the 3,000 are due by Sunday.

Officials have stressed that the newly arriving troops’ mission is limited to assisting the airlift of embassy personnel and Afghan allies, and they expect to complete it by month’s end. But they might have to stay longer if the embassy is threatened by a Taliban takeover of Kabul by then. On Friday the Taliban seemed nearly within reach of contesting the capital.

Biden had given the Pentagon until Aug. 31 to complete the withdrawal of the 2,500 to 3,000 troops that were in Afghanistan when he announced in April that he was ending U.S. involvement in the war. That number has dropped to just under 1,000, and all but about 650 are scheduled to be gone by the end of the month; the 650 are to remain to help protect the U.S. diplomatic presence, including with aircraft and defensive weapons at Kabul airport.

But Thursday’s decision to dispatch 3,000 fresh troops to the airport adds a new twist to the U.S. withdrawal. There is no discussion of rejoining the war, but the number of troops needed for security will depend on decisions about keeping the embassy open and the extent of a Taliban threat to the capital in coming days.

The fact is there were about 12,000 troops, until Trump cut it back to 2,500 troops, and surrendered and made a deal. Also 2,500 troops was never enough to fortify the Afghan government. Boot is totally wrong. Not to mention the Afghan government wasted huge amounts of US aid and money that never went to strengthen their military capability.

The whole thing is a fiasco, but not unexpected. Biden was given a losing hand and played it poorly. The same thing happened to Ford when he wrapped up the Vietnam era. Unpopular at the time, a short time later it reversed and it became a very favorable and popular decision.

Still here ?
I would have told the Taliban, Trump was foolish to say we would be out by may 31st. The exit should have happened from the spring throughout the late fall. The Taliban don't fight in the winter, there're is a reason the violence explodes in the spring and summer.

Next thing I would have done is let are allies know We're leaving, 20 years is long enough for the " leaders " to get their shit together.

Then I would have the army set up tent cities for anyone that helped our troops in safe locations all over the world near are Army bases. With trained personal to vet the people we get out.

after that, read my daily report instead of watching Fox news to know what my voters care about, so I can stay in power.
