It was 2% at around 65, and double digits for people in their 80’s. Vaccinations, previous infections, better treatment and the predominance of the less fatal Omicron variant mean those numbers should be much lower now. I’d think it would still be higher than 2% if you’re entirely unwell and old.

Hospitalizations/ total cases may be off but not the deaths. There aren't that many children dying from CoVid. If they had to put you on a ventilator then you had CoVid. Only the spike protein from SARS_CoV_2 can bind with lung protein ace2. Which is how it gets into your lungs.

HERD Immunity -

You are wrong about what you said regarding HERD Immunity. HERD Immunity varies by virus. For measles virus its 95%. For polio virus it's 80% of population would have to get it and survive to protect the rest of the herd.

Herd Immunity is more difficult to achieve for a virus that mutates. For Influenza_A virus it mutates once a year. A new vaccine is available every October. SARS_CoV-2 virus is mutating at a quicker pace right now. There have been about six mutations over 24 month period. IF SARS_CoV_2 will behave like Influenza_A remains to be seen.
